Special Literary Event to Commemorate Sylvia Plath’s 85th Birthday
Sylvia Plath fans will be delighted to have the opportunity to commemorate her 85th birthday at this very special literary event, featuring award winning author, journalist and playwright Barry Dickins, who will reflect upon Sylvia’s life and writings.
Barry is a long-time fan and admirer of the famous American poet, and his play A Kind of Fabulous Hatred imagines Sylvia’s final hours, paying homage to her most brilliant work of all.
He will be joined by popular local presenter Narelle Stone, who will read some of Sylvia’s most beautiful poems.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Barry back to our libraries after he captivated audiences in April with presentations on his book about Ronald Ryan, the last person hanged in Australia,” said Jess Saunders, Goldfields Libraries Acting Programs and Events Coordinator.
“We are equally delighted to commemorate Sylvia’s 85th birthday. She was such an iconic figure in literature, and we look forward to enjoying Narelle Stone’s moving readings of her poetry,” said Ms Saunders.
Barry and Narelle will present at Castlemaine Library on Thursday 26 October from 2-3pm, and at Bendigo Library on Thursday 26 October from 5.30-6.30pm.
Both sessions are free and bookings are required via www.goldfieldslibraries.com
