Relax and stay cool this summer with Goldfields Libraries!

Tuesday 4 December 2018

There’s plenty happening at Goldfields Libraries this summer with a huge range of free and fun events to keep everyone inspired and cool.

We feel we have something for everyone to enjoy in our Summer Program,” says Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator.

“Join us to celebrate special times of the year with songs, dancing and stories, attend an author event or hone your computer skills. Summer is a great time for young families in our libraries too, with visits from the Little Christmas Elf, Wildlife Gone Walkabout, and the Mighty Mini Beast show, as well as the chance to join the Summer Reading Club,“ said Ms Higgs

Visiting authors include Elizabeth Kleinhenz, speaking about her book Germaine: the life of Germaine Greer aligning with Greer’s 80th birthday, local Woodend author Ilka Tampke, and best-selling romance writer Nicole Hurley-Moore in celebration of Library Lover’s Day.

For those wishing to enhance health and wellbeing, author Julie Davey will share tips on raising resilient children and teaching kids how to manage money while Dr Dean Cocking explores ‘Evil online’ and the resulting moral fog. Co-ordinator of the Saver Plus program Carol Gledhill shares skills for building financial literacy skills to better manage our finances.

For the creatively inclined, come along and watch the development of our giant Dr Who scarf with Kristy Kum Too or learn the traditional art of Aboriginal weaving in a hands-on workshop with Trina Dalton-Ooges.

Our Online Learning Workshops will help develop confidence in accessing online information and resources and a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) means there are plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained during those hot summer days.

To see full details on all our great summer activities, pick up a copy of the summer program at your local Goldfields Library or view or download it online at www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/seasonalprogram.
