Artist-led workshops explore locally threatened animals

Wednesday 24 July 2024

Local kids are invited to explore threatened species through interactive workshops led by artist and author Trace Balla. Hosted as part of National Science Week, these workshops, held in Bendigo and Castlemaine, aim to raise awareness about nearby threatened animals and empower participants to create meaningful group artworks to draw attention to their plight.

Trace Balla, celebrated for her graphic novels Rivertime and Rock Hopping and books Landing With Wings and Leaf-light, will join library staff to guide attendees through an exploration of the habitats and challenges faced by these vulnerable creatures. Children will collaborate to produce a collective artwork inspired by their newfound knowledge and experiences.

"This project will not only inform kids about our local wildlife but also encourage action and creativity," says Trace, emphasising the importance of community engagement in conservation efforts.

The workshops are made possible by the generous support of Inspiring Victoria’s National Science Week Community Seed Grant 2024. They will be showcased at Bendigo and Castlemaine libraries during National Science Week (10-18 August).

Both sessions are free, but bookings are essential. For more information and to book, visit goldfieldslibraries.com
