Victorian Youth Week celebrates the talents, achievements, and contributions of young people, assists them in expressing their ideas and helps to have their voices heard.
Yo Poets ShowcaseJoin the Yo Media team as they present talented young creatives performing spoken word poetry and short creative writing pieces. Thursday 24 June, 5-7pm Library Lock-InTeens in years 7-9 are back in the library for video games, food, craft and noise! Lock yourself in the library, lock everyone else out! This event ALWAYS books out fast – ask in branch for details.
Friday 25 June, 6-8.30pm The Field Trip presents: Find Your Voice‘The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.’ Mark Twain Find Your Voice is the culmination of a term program at The Field Trip youth group which has encouraged young people to find their voice and share their unique perspective of their lives and communities. Local young people between ages 8-25 will share their views in short three-minute talks on a variety of topics, of local interest. Come and be surprised and hear what they have to say. Sessions run between 30 minutes and an hour.
Monday 28 June, 11am-12pm Tuesday 29 June, 11am-12pm Wednesday 30 June, 1-2pm Through the lens: Create a cameraWhat did it take to take a photo before the digital revolution? Come along and see how it was done. It may be simpler than you think... Ages 8-14 years. Participants need to attend both sessions. Cameras and images will be on display during National Science Week (14-22 Aug) with thanks to our funders. |
Future Creations: Zine launch and makerspaceCome and join us as we launch Future Creations, a zine created by young people living in the Macedon Ranges. The launch will be followed by a zine and badge makerspace led by Kelly Robson from 2pm. Come and have a try! For young people aged 12-25. Light catering provided.
Thursday 1 July, 1-3pm Dee White: Writing workshopLocal author Dee White shows how to craft stories based on your own personal experiences and identity. Learn how to use literary devices to add emphasis and layers of meaning to characters and stories. Write about the year 2020 or something completely different! For ages 11-14 years.
Tuesday 6 July, 10.30-11.30am Christie Nieman: Where We BeginJoin Castlemaine author Christie Nieman as she discusses Australian gothic writing, the power of landscape and her latest young adult novel Where We Begin. Where We Begin has been nominated for the CBCA Book of the Year Awards and the Victorian and NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. For ages 14+. Book sales and signings.
