Summer Reading Club Winners Meet Author Glenda Millard!
Our Summer Reading Club winners have two reasons to be excited: they have recently received their well-deserved prizes, and they got to meet local author Glenda Millard in the process!
Alex Turner is the lucky overall regional prize winner, with his completed reading log drawn from 197 entries. Glenda presented Alex with a fantastic prize pack containing a voucher to have a 3D model of himself created, plus family passes to IMAX Cinema and Melbourne Star.
“We hope Alex and his family enjoy the exciting experiences in store for them in Melbourne,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Library Corporation Programs and Events Coordinator.
This year 350 children aged 5-12 registered for the Summer Reading Club through Goldfields Libraries, with 197 completing the challenge, equating to almost 2,000 books read.
“We are thrilled with the response from families getting involved in this exciting and worthwhile literacy program to keep children engaged with books over the long Summer break,” said Ms Higgs.
“Congratulations must go to all involved, with a special mention to Woodend Library who had 141 registrations with 62 children completing the challenge, a fantastic result, especially considering the proportions!”
Glenda Millard is a local author who has written many books and novels for children and young adults. She has had a number of titles nominated for awards, most recently The Duck and the Darklings, which was shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Picture Book of the Year in 2015.
