William McInnes to Headline Goldfields Libraries Spring Program

Wednesday 31 August 2016

An evening with popular Aussie actor and author William McInnes is a highlight of the action packed Goldfields Libraries Spring program. The program features an exciting range of activities and events for all ages to enjoy this season.

National Bird Week events will delight, with the opportunity for children to build their own nests, and fascinating presentations by bioacoustics researcher Andrew Skeoch and bird photographers Daryl Fleay and Chris Cope.

“As always, kids are well looked after in our program with a delightful range of creative and engaging activities, including the school holiday program and Children’s Week activities,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator.

“We are looking forward to Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, with many celebrations planned including a competition to win a Golden Ticket weekend pass to the Roald Dahl Mini Film Festival at Eaglehawk’s Star Cinema,” said Ms Higgs.

“Other exciting highlights are special performances of Alice in Wonderland by the Victorian Youth Art Theatre, the Castlemaine Children’s Literature Festival and a special visit from the Australian Ballet for Storytime dance workshops.”

Young writers can gain insights from Dr Lynne Kelly, author of 16 books, including ‘The Memory Code’, which cracks the mystery of Stonehenge. Teens can also learn to design, build and program robots in a six week block code robotics course.

Alzheimer’s Australia will present sessions on brain health, including advice on living with dementia, practical ways to improve memory and a session on mild cognitive impairment.

Fans of the classics will love the dramatic ‘My Emma’ sessions with Lise Rodgers, and the opportunity to debate the age old question: “Did Shakespeare write Shakespeare?”. An inspiring selection of author talks will also feature throughout the season.

Green thumbs can attend presentations on garden design with award winning author Dr Anne Vale, and with Stu Burns of ABC’s ‘Gardening Australia’ fame, who will speak about growing heirloom fruit and vegetables.

Seniors can take advantage of digital literacy programs to learn the intricacies of social media, online music with iTunes, eLibrary resources and more.
