Every Week is Seniors Week at Goldfields Libraries!

With Seniors Week fast approaching in October, over 55s will find a hands-on range of interactive events coming up at Goldfields Libraries throughout Spring.

Alzheimer’s Australia will present a series of free presentations on brain health at a number of libraries in the Goldfields region. A different topic will be explored each month: Your Brain Matters in September; Worried About Your Memory in October; and Mild Cognitive Impairment in November.

Those wanting to learn how to connect with others online are well catered for in October with Facebook for Seniors sessions to be held at various branches. These free workshops will cover social media basics in a practical, easy to understand format.

Castlemaine Library will also hold a special Social Connection through Social Media for Seniors session in October.

“What makes the Castlemaine Social Connection session different is that the younger generation will lead the way in giving seniors an introduction into the world of social media,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Library Corporation Programs and Events Coordinator.

“Music fans will love our online music sessions coming up in November, which will cover how to download and organise music using iTunes, and introduce some of our eLibrary’s excellent music resources,” said Ms Higgs.

Tech Savvy Seniors, the popular short course designed to assist seniors to develop their computer skills, will also run again in the coming months.

One-on-one IT help sessions are available by appointment at most library branches, allowing the opportunity to ask specific technology questions and to learn how to make the most of the library’s eResources.

Book clubs may like to make the most of the library’s book sets and resources available for loan, and use the meeting spaces to get together. The library can also connect those wishing to join a book club with local groups.

There are several family history research eResources available free to library members. Research assistance is also available, along with connections to local genealogy groups.
