Identity Theft Information Sessions In Bendigo

Thursday 25 June 2015

More than 770,000 Australians have been the victim of identity theft in the past year and the cost to the average victim was $4,000. * What can we do to prevent cybercriminals illegally accessing our personal information?

A visiting speaker to Bendigo Library may be able to tell you. Dr Mark Gregory is a Senior Lecturer focusing on Network Engineering and Internet security in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at RMIT University in Melbourne, and will be visiting the Library in July to talk about identity theft and how to prevent it.

Bendigo Library Adult Programs Coordinator, Sue Mooney, says this visit by Dr Gregory is a great opportunity to hear an expert speak on an area most of us know very little about.

“We tend to think our information is safe in our home computer, but obviously this is not always the case,” Ms Mooney says.

Dr Mark Gregory will be at the Bendigo Library on Thursday 16 July; running two information sessions, one between 2 and 3pm, and an evening session at 5:30 to 6:30pm.

The event is free and bookings can be made through the Goldfields Libraries website www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au.  For further information phone 5449 2781.
