BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Young families will be joining in the fun of National Simultaneous Storytime this week as libraries across the region celebrate Australia's biggest storytelling session! The same book will be read across Australia and New Zealand at the same time.
This year’s book is Philip Buntings Give Me Some Space!, a delightful story that expertly merges non-fiction facts with imaginative play.
Una dreams of a life in Space. Life on Earth is just so-so. But how will she get there? And will she complete her mission to discover life in Space? And did she remember to feed Neil the goldfish?
Give Me Some Space! will be enjoyed by over 1 million children in over 8,000 locations across Australia and New Zealand simultaneously, in settings such as libraries, schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, bookshops, homes and more. This year, we’ll even reach Space as real-life NASA Astronaut Shannon Walker joins in the fun and reads all the way from the International Space Station!
National Simultaneous Storytime will take place on Wednesday 19 May from 10.45am at the following locations:
- Bendigo Library – 259 Hargreaves Street
- Castlemaine Library – 212 Barker Street (with councillor Rosie Annear as special guest reader)
- Gisborne Library – 8 Hamilton Street
- Kangaroo Flat Library – 23 Lockwood Road
- Kyneton Library – Goodstart Early Learning Centre, 30 Mair Street
- Romsey Library – 98 Main Street
- Boort Library Agency – Boort Resource & Information Centre, 119-121 Godfrey Street
- Elmore Library Agency – Elmore Athenaeum Hall, 62 Michie Street
- Inglewood Library Agency – Inglewood Town Hall Hub, 20 Verdon Street
National Simultaneous Storytime is an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association and aims to promote the value of reading and literacy among children.
