Mental Health Week Events at Goldfields Libraries
The first Mental Health Week was in 1985, and since then, hundreds of individuals, groups and organisations have embraced the opportunity to raise awareness across Victoria and Australia with a variety of events, exhibitions and activities.
This year Goldfields Libraries is holding a range of events to acknowledge Mental Health Week, which is from Sunday 9 – Saturday 15 October.
Beyond Blue's Maree Tambasco-Roche will speak at Castlemaine Library about her experiences of living with and caring for someone with mental health conditions.
Cobaw Community Health’s Canon O’Saurus will explore the relationship between mental health and getting the right quality and quantity of sleep, especially for young people, at Gisborne Library.
Alzheimer’s Australia will hold an interactive session about how memory works, the impact of ageing and practical ways to keep the brain healthy. The session is part of a series of Alzheimer’s Australia events throughout Spring: www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/alzheimers
Jeremy Forbes from Hope Assistance Local Tradies (HALT) will share the story of HALT, and ways to prevent anxiety, depression and suicide in the community, at Bendigo Library.
Cobaw Community Health Drug and Alcohol Counsellor, Lynsey, will provide practical information about the impact of drugs and alcohol on physical and mental health, at Kyneton Library.
Young people will assist seniors with learning how to connect with others on Facebook in an interactive session at Castlemaine Library, in partnership with Castlemaine Community and District Health.
Rose Turtle Etler will be at Bendigo Library to collect compliments in the lead up to her “Complimentary Caravan” Mental Health Week event at the Hargreaves Mall.
