Live literary competition coming to Woodend
The search is on for Australia’s next Poetry Slam champion! On Saturday 4 August, Victorians will have the opportunity to witness, first-hand, the excitement of the 2018 Australian Poetry Slam, and compete if they dare!
Woodend Library will host a Victoria heat of this year’s competition at the Woodend RSL.
Spoken word artists, poets, wordsmiths and rappers are invited to rehearse their verse for a chance to compete in the Victorian finals of the largest poetry slam program in the southern hemisphere.
The Slam is a nation-wide, live literary performance competition where anything goes, and the audience is the judge. More than 1000 poets have performed to over 20,000 people across Australia since it began in 2005.
In each heat, performers are given a microphone, a live audience, and just two minutes to impress the judges with their original piece. Two finalists from each heat and will face off in the Victorian final at the State Library on 21 September, with the winners going on to compete in Sydney for the national final in October.
The Woodend Heat will be held on Saturday 4 August at the Woodend RSL, 32 Anslow Street. Doors will open at 6.30pm for registrations and entry is free.
