Join in the Australian Reading Hour
The Australian Reading Hour is coming up on Thursday 14 September, and is a great opportunity for adults and children to set aside an hour to enjoy some quality reading time.
Find some exciting new books to read with specially selected Family Book Bundles suited for children aged 0-7 years, available to borrow from Goldfields Libraries for the week of Monday 11 – Saturday 16 September.
A special Bedtime Storytime will be held for children aged 2-6 years to celebrate the Australian Reading Hour. Children are encouraged to wear their PJs and come along and enjoy stories with Robyn and live music and song from Luke Owens. The session is free and will be held at Bendigo Library on Thursday 14 September from 6-7pm.
“Although the Australian Reading Hour is for all ages, it especially reminds parents to share a book with their child for ten minutes a day, an hour a week to give them the best chance of becoming a good reader,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Library Corporation Programs and Events Coordinator.
“As well as the Australian Reading Hour and Family Book Bundles, Goldfields Libraries hosts reading-related activities all year round, including book clubs, children’s storytimes, author events and National Simultaneous Storytime,” said Ms Higgs.
Reading is a favourite leisure activity across Australia, and is believed to reduce stress by 68%. It works faster than listening to music, going for a walk or enjoying a cup of tea. Reading not only makes us feel good, it’s also an important life skill.
