Goldfields Libraries Invites Kids to Get Lost in a Good Book this Summer!
Goldfields Libraries invites children aged 5-12 to discover underwater worlds, alternate universes and more as part of the Summer Reading Club over the January school holidays.
The Summer Reading Club is a free online and in-library holiday program, run in partnership with the State Library of Queensland, the Australian Library and Information Association, and the Australian Public Library Alliance.
This year, the Summer Reading Club is all about discovery. Young readers can explore lost worlds, alternate universes and mythical creatures depicted across science fiction, historical fiction and fantasy fiction.
Club members are challenged to read 10 books over the summer, receiving incentives along the way and the chance to win some great prizes including book vouchers, Awesome Other Worlds packs and the Goldfields Libraries Major Regional prize of an iPad mini! There will also be Interactive Other Worlds murals at each library for Club members to track the collective number of books being read.
The fun continues online with plenty of activities to keep young readers inspired throughout the holidays with more great prizes up for grabs! Search for answers to Encyclopaedia Britannica’s sponsored quiz, craft What Happens Next story endings to Paul Collins and Allison Tate’s story starters, share your book raves and artwork, and lots more.
Readers can also meet 21 of Australia’s favourite authors and illustrators online, and preview their newly released titles.
Goldfields Libraries is running the program until Friday 22 January, concluding with celebratory Summer Reading Club Wrap Parties at Bendigo and Gisborne Libraries. Bendigo’s party will feature kid’s punk rock band ‘The Itchy Scabs’.
Children can join in the fun at any Goldfields Libraries branch. More information is available online: www.ncgrl.vic.gov.au/src or www.summerreadingclub.org.au
