Goldfields Libraries Flash 300 Writing Competition Calls for Young Writers!
Young writers aged 13-18: put pen to paper these Winter holidays and enter the inaugural Goldfields Libraries Flash 300 Writing Competition! Good news – the closing date has been extended until Friday 15 July!
Entrants will be in the running to win cash prizes and book vouchers, plus the prestige of being named the inaugural Goldfields Flash 300 Competition winner!
A selection of high quality entries will be compiled into an anthology, which will be available through Goldfields Libraries.
Flash Fiction – the super-short short story genre – is gaining popularity in writing and reading circles everywhere. Entries are limited to just 300 words, presenting the challenge of crafting an engaging story into a compact format.
“This is a great opportunity for teens to develop their writing skills and challenge themselves by including something from the competition’s theme, betrayal,” said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator.
“Entrants are encouraged to check out the Flash 300 guidelines and include one of the three prompts in their piece – an image, a line of dialogue or a word. The judges will be looking at how these are used.”
The Flash 300 Writing Competition follows a series of flash fiction writing workshops held during National Youth Week, facilitated by local Young Adult author Christie Nieman.
