Temporary closure of Castlemaine Library
Castlemaine Library is closed until Monday 16 June while a new floor is laid in the northwest section of the facility.
Over the next few days, visitors may notice an odour at or near the library. The odour will weaken over time.
Council is continuing to work with Goldfields Library Corporation to minimise the impact of works in the sealed off work site, and to increase ventilation via a number of measures.
The installation of mechanical ventilation under the new floor will also help maintain the condition of the heritage-listed building in the long-term.
The library is expected to reopen at 10:00am on Monday 16 June, pending air quality.
As the library returns chute is not accessible, books can be returned when the library reopens or via the Goldfields Library Network. Late fees will not apply for books unable to be returned during the closure.
Council and Goldfields Library Corporation apologises for any inconvenience. Council is completing the works as part of its maintenance program on assets and aging infrastructure.
