New Autism Resources at the Goldfields Libraries
The Bendigo Autism Asperger Group (BAAG) has donated a variety of books and DVD’s to the Goldfields Library Corporation with the new resources now available to borrow.
BAAG is a local support group run by volunteers for individuals and families interested in or affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s).
ASD disorders include Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorders.
Bendigo Library Acting Manager, Kath Waugh says the donation is in line with the Goldfields Libraries commitment to learning and engagement.
“The donation supports education and will broaden people’s knowledge of Autism and Asperger Syndrome in the City of Greater Bendigo and surrounds.
“The new resources in the library collection address universal themes such as overcoming difficulties, building self-esteem and understanding challenging behaviours” Ms Waugh says.
President of the Bendigo Autism and Asperger Group Leah Thomas says the group is delighted the library has new resources readily available for people to access.
“Through this donation we hope to raise the profile of Autism and help those diagnosed with ASD reach their full potential”.
“Improved public awareness and understanding of ASD’s is essential to helping the whole community understand, accommodate and support these individuals” Ms Thomas says.
