Brunswick Street Art and Revolution: Event at Castlemaine Library

Tuesday 14 July 2015

Bohemians, grungers, artists and radicals converge on Castlemaine Library for a night of hilarity on Thursday 23rd July.

Brunswick Street was central in the cultural explosion of art, theatre, fashion, music and politics in Melbourne in the the 80's. Two local artists who were central to it all have collaborated to produce an incredible book that documents this time, called Brunswick Street: Art and Revolution.

Programs Officer at Castlemaine Library, Jess Saunders, says that many people will recognise the people and places documented in the book. “So many locals will be familiar with this part of our recent history – the studios, the restaurants, the marches and demonstrations in the streets – everyone has a story to tell. This book is the result of seven years of hard work, and it was certainly worth the effort!”

Authors Anne Rittman and Maz Wilson will be there to encourage this spirit of Bohemia, with Sue Ingleton, Little Raven and special guests performing. A short film made up of images and music from the book will be screened on the night, with time for Q&A with the authors and contributors. The book will be for sale on the night.

Light refreshments and live music will be part of the evening. Free event.
