Bendigo winner for Goldfields Libraries Summer Reading Club!
Goldfields Libraries participate in the national Summer Reading Club each year with the aim of encouraging school aged children to read for pleasure over the long summer break.
All members receive a Summer Reading Club pack and become eligible to win prizes upon reading 10 books.
Close to 500 children joined the Summer Reading Club this year, with 352 completing the reading challenge of 10 books, equating to some 3,520 books read.
This year’s winner is 10 year old Alice from Bendigo, who wins the fantastic prize of an iPad for her efforts. Alice greatly exceeded the challenge, reading 140 books over summer with the hope of coming home with a prize. Little did she know she would get two! Alice was also lucky enough to receive a branch prize of Guinness Book of Records.
Lucky branch prizes were awarded to children at each Goldfields Library branch. Prizes included book vouchers, Guinness Book of Records, GBR Gamer’s Edition, Ripley’s Believe It or Not and more.
Although Alice was thrilled to win the prizes, she said it was also nice to re-read some of the books at home. Alice was also excited at the thought of borrowing e-books from the Goldfields Library eLibrary and reading them on her new iPad.
Goldfields Libraries Coordinator of Programs and Events Tammy Higgs is delighted with the success of the program. “We love the Summer Reading Club because it supports and encourages children to enjoy reading and reinforces this wonderful life skill. We would like to congratulate all children who participated this year.”
