Award winning author Mark Brandi set to visit Goldfields Libraries

Tuesday 5 June 2018

Victorian author Mark Brandi will visit Gisborne, Bendigo and Heathcote Libraries, and Wedderburn Library Agency as part of the High Road to Reading program this June. Mark will talk about his award-winning first novel Wimmera.

Funded by the State Library of Victoria and presented in partnership with Public Libraries Victoria Network, High Road to Reading brings authors to public libraries across regional Victoria for readings, talks and workshops.

Mark Brandi was born in Italy and raised in a country pub in Stawell, Victoria. After graduating with a degree in criminal justice and working in a number of roles within the Department of Justice, Mark changed direction and began a new career as a writer. His work has been published in The Guardian and The Age and is often broadcast on ABC Radio National.

Wimmera is Mark’s first novel, and was the 2016 winner of the UK Debut Dagger for crime fiction. Wimmera is both riveting and unforgettable, bringing the darkness in a Victorian country town vividly to life, as it slowly reveals its devastating secrets.

“We are delighted to have such a highly credentialed author visit our region. Mark is a master storyteller in the making and it is clear that his background has been invaluable in writing this disturbing but gripping novel. The Wedderburn Library Agency is particularly fortunate to be hosting both an author talk and writing workshop and I really encourage those with an interest in writing to embrace this fantastic opportunity and welcome Mark to town,” Said Tammy Higgs, Goldfields Libraries Programs and Events Coordinator.

Mark will be presenting four sessions at Goldfields Libraries:

  • Friday 22 June, 10am-12pm (includes workshop and morning tea)
Wedderburn Library Agency, Wedderburn Community Centre, 24 Wilson Street
    Book Wedderburn session online

Entry is free to all sessions, but booking are required at www.goldfieldslibraries.com
