A fabulous day of sustainable fun at Bendigo Library

Thursday 9 January 2020

Bendigo Library is excited to present a fabulous day of sustainable fun and information for the whole family to enjoy!

Young families, teens and adults are warmly invited to come along and participate in free sustainably themed activities and entertainment aiming to inspire personal actions for a more sustainable lifestyle.

Activities for children include creating shoe and boot mini gardens and creating a water bottle holder – children will need to bring along an old shoe or boot, a water bottle and two old socks.

Teens will be encouraged to question fast fashion with a clothing swap to create a whole new wardrobe without spending a cent! Bring along clothes which no longer work for you, clean and in good condition, and exchange them for something fresh and different. Local second-hand shops will also be providing some clothes to increase the clothing options.

See a demo on creating and using wax wraps, a great way to reduce household use of plastic film and bags, and good fun too!

A highlight will be the 11am community screening of the innovative and inspiring documentary 2040: Join the Regeneration on our giant screen. In the form of a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, award-winning director Damon Gameau explores what the future could look like in 2040 if we embedded best solutions to improve our planet right now.

There will be a green wall of sustainable tips & tricks which everyone is welcome to contribute to – you never know what you might find out to make a difference. And of course, the library’s bread and butter – beautiful books on all things sustainability will be on display and ready to borrow.

The day will wrap up with a 1pm performance from the gorgeous and cheeky Lilly Pilly Green who will delight with songs on mandolin, keyboard and loop pedal.

“Bendigo Library is a great place to visit in the summer and we really hope the community will embrace this special family day where we hope to both inform and inspire small steps towards living sustainably”, says Goldfield’s Libraries’ Coordinator of Programs and Events, Tammy Higgs.

For those looking for even more information on living sustainable living, the Library is partnering with the City of Greater Bendigo to host a number of practical workshops in February. The workshops will bring some well-known celebrities in the sustainability world to Bendigo and will focus on gardening, growing and preserving vegetables and passive homes.
