Heathcote Sports Equipment Library
Heathcote library is thrilled to announce the official launch of the Heathcote Sports Equipment Library, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering inclusivity and eliminating barriers to participation in physical activity.
The library boasts a comprehensive collection of sports equipment, catering to a wide range of ages and skill levels. From basketball, skateboards, scooters, balance bikes to tennis rackets and protective equipment, our extensive inventory ensures that everyone in the community can find the right gear for their preferred activity.
Membership to the Sports Equipment Library is free for all residents of the Heathcote community who have a Goldfields Libraries membership providing access from the Heathcote Library. This initiative is designed to make keeping active accessible to families from all walks of life, promoting a healthier and more active community.
The City of Greater Bendigo (City) has partnered with Goldfields Libraries to deliver the Sports Equipment Library in Heathcote. The Library provides a wonderful opportunity for children between the ages of 0-17 years to borrow sports equipment for up to three weeks, free of charge.
The Sport Equipment Library is funded by VicHealth through the Local Government Partnership. The City is a VicHealth Local Government Partner (VLGP) which supports the health and wellbeing of all children 0-12 years in Greater Bendigo. It also provides the opportunity to amplify the voices and experiences of children and young people in our local community to create a healthier future.
In early 2023 the City asked children living in Heathcote and District what equipment they would like to see included if a sports library was established in their town. The library provides families with access to sporting equipment they may not have the opportunity to have at their home.
The 2019 City of Greater Bendigo Active Living Census indicates that 21.3% of residents identified cost as a barrier to them participating physical activities. The library will provide a free accessible alternative to physical activity assisting children and families in meeting physical activity goals.
With the weather warming up, and the school holidays just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for children to have fun and get active outdoors, while being SunSmart. Families can access the Sports Equipment Library at no cost using their library membership at the Heathcote Library, Tuesday 9am-12pm, Thursday and Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 9am-12pm.
