Castlemaine Seed Library
Next time you're thinking about starting a vegetable garden, or adding to your established vegie patch, pop into Castlemaine Library and borrow some seeds!
This fantastic initiative is supported by The Hub Plot and Growing Abundance, and works on the simple principles of borrowing, growing and returning.
You can borrow up to three packets of seeds at a time, and propagate your plants. Once you have harvested your herbs or vegetables, simply save some of their seeds and return them to the Library, ready to be used by the next borrower. Easy!
Growing Abundance also offer regular seed saving workshops, and The Hub Plot have a gardening group that meet weekly, who are happy to share advice on growing, harvesting and seed saving as well.
The Castlemaine Seed Library volunteers meet once a month to package up all the saved seeds – if you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, contact them via email at the address below.
The Castlemaine Seed Library is free and everyone is welcome to use it during Library opening hours. Remember the Library has a great collection of gardening and seed saving books available to borrow too!
Donations of saved seeds are also welcome.
